Untried Polish Challenge – Cheapest

This is it! It is the last of my Untried Polish Challenge manis! I made it ALL the way through the challenge! I’m quite chuffed with myself! I still have a bunch of untrieds, but I’ve worked through many of them and quite a few of my untrieds are new, so it is a win overall!

This prompt was difficult. A lot of the polishes I had left I did not purchase myself, so I have no idea how much they cost. I recently received nail mail from my friend in Belgium. He helped me find a black and white glitter which you just cannot find here. While he was shopping for that he picked a few other polishes and added them to my gift πŸ˜€ I very much doubt that this polish is the cheapest of my untrieds, but since it was a gift and I didn’t pay for it, technically it was free πŸ˜‰

I started off with my regular base coat of Tip Top Miraculous results to protect my natural nails. I painted two coats of Maybelline Wine Shimmer on all my nails. Wine Shimmer is a jelly polish, so I decided to make a jelly sandwich accent with the L’Oreal Top Coat Confetti which is the black and white glitter my friend also sent to me. I painted one coat of the Top Coat Confetti on my ring fingers and then painted one more layer of Wine Shimmer over it. After some consultation with Ordinary Misfit, I decided to do another coat of the Wine Shimmer over the rest of my nails as there was still quite a bit of visible nail line. The formula of the Wine Shimmer was lovely. It was quite a bit thicker than my China Glaze Are You Jelly?. Are You Jelly? is quite watery, whereas Wine Shimmer felt like jelly that had set a little. I didn’t have any dragging problems on my second coat and didn’t need to wait for the first coat to dry a bit before painting the next one. It is quite pigmented and in the poor light quality last night I almost felt like I could get away with two coats, but after photographing my nails it seemed like a third coat was definitely required, which is pretty standard for a jelly polish as they are quite sheer. The colour does build up very nicely though. I am totally in love with this colour. It is a deep burgundy with a scattered holographic shimmer which is to die for. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I also like how the layer of Wine Shimmer over the Top Coat Confetti changed the colour of the white glitter to match the Wine Shimmer. I can’t stop staring at my nails. I don’t generally like dark polishes, or even reds, but this? In love! The Top Coat Confetti was also great. I could paint it on like a regular polish with great glitter payoff. No ‘blob and spread’ with this one! If I did find a spot that didn’t catch any glitter, I could just dip my brush back into the bottle and paint over it. Β The results:

As lovely as the photos are, I don’t even think they do this colour justice. The colour is a bit deeper in person. I can’t rave enough about this polish. The formula was great, built up nicely and the colour is stunning! All I still have to judge is the wear time, but I’m wearing it right now so I can’t really say just yet. I only own one other Maybelline polish and I really enjoyed the colour and formula on that too. I’m not sure what their price range is since I didn’t purchase either of these polishes myself, but so far the brand has impressed me and they might be worth picking up if I can’t find something similar in a cheaper brand.

What do you think of this polish? Are you glad that the challenge is over now too? πŸ˜›
