bornprettystore Water Decal Review

Hi everyone. As promised, yet another bornprettystore review for you. This is another set of water decals I totally fell in love with. Of course it helps that they are purple and that is my favourite colour, could you guess? Let me show you how stunning they are.bornprettystore water decal reviewbornprettystore water decal reviewbornprettystore water decal reviewI started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I chose to pair these decals with Revlon Gel Envy Showtime since it is not only purple, but contains purple and blue micro glitter which I thought would work perfectly with these decals. I painted 2 coats of Showtime on my thumb, index and pinkie nails. On my middle and ring nails I painted 1 coat of Revlon Gel Envy Sure Thing which is a lovely opaque white. To prep the decals I cut them out to the approximate size of my nails and removed the plastic protective layer. I submerged them in water for a few seconds until they slid off the paper backing. I placed the decal on my nail and absorbed excess water with a tissue. This helped the decal stay in place while I used a small clean up brush and acetone to remove the extra decal around and at the tip of my nail. These decals were sturdy, but using the acetone to clean them up and remove the excess worked well. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Neon French Nails

Hi everyone. The mani I have to show you today was actually requested by my husband. He is a huge fan of french manicures and has always wanted me to do one. In all my time doing nails I’ve only done one french mani, so I decided to indulge him. I tried to discuss details with him, but being a dude, it was like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. Eventually I asked him if he wanted a traditional french or something funky and he said funky. Let me show you what I came up with.Neon French NailsNeon French NailsNeon French NailsNeon French Nails

I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Revlon Sure Thing (gift) on my index, middle and pinkie nails. I really love this white. I actually think it’s my favourite white in my collection. It self levels really well and is very opaque. The formula is easy to work with and dry time is pretty standard. On my ring nail I painted 3 coats of China Glaze Neon & On & On. Oooooh I love me a good neon. The formula on this neon is tricky and not so easy to work with. The polish dries very fast, so it’s easy to drag if you go over the same spot more than once. It sure is beautiful though, right? Once my polish was dry I used french nail guides I purchased from bornprettystore to tape off the tips of my nails. I was actually shaking the entire time I was doing this. I’m not sure if it was because I was hungry or nervous that I was going to mess it up. I alternated the colours on my tips, painting over the guides and immediately removing them when I was done painting, one nail at a time. It still felt like it was missing something, so I added the heart rhinestone to my accent nail. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Although french manis aren’t really my vibe, I really loved how this turned out. Perhaps because, NEON 😀 So I showed them to my husband and he just sort of grunted his “approval” and then went into how we had discussed other options for the french and that he wasn’t sure why I went ahead and did my own thing. I think I may have done so because at some point he had said “Just do whatever you want” when he was tired of discussing nails with me LOL. As you can see above, once again in my lightbox the camera was completely freaked out by the neon, the shot in the sun is colour accurate. I am also not sure why my skin looks so dark in the lightbox pictures. You win some, you lose some. I was totally going to post this as a Valentine’s mani, but life got away from me.

Do you like french manicures? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below.

Bornprettystore Ongle Liner Nail Art Brush Review

Hi everyone! Today I have the bornprettystore (affiliate link) Ongle Liner Nail Art Brush review for you. While I was waiting on this brush to arrive, I knew that I was going to need to freehand something for the review. Eek. Freehand is not my strong suit, so I was pretty nervous. I spotted a mani on Instagram that I absolutely loved and sent it to my friend via direct message on Instagram so I could keep it somewhere until it was time to do the mani. When the brush arrived, I went back to the direct messages only to find that the photo had been deleted. I went to search for it on Pinterest, hoping I would find it there to credit the original artist. I didn’t find the original photo that I saw, but I did find the same mani created by stephstonenails, so I’ll be crediting her as I cannot for the life of me remember who posted the photo that I saw. While searching for this mani I realized that it is inspired by the series Pretty Little Liars. I’ve only watched the first season of the show. I wouldn’t say I’m a die hard fan, but I am definitely a fan of this design. Let me show you how it turned out.

Pretty Little Liars Nail ArtPretty Little Liars Nail ArtPretty Little Liars Nail Art

I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Revlon Gel Envy Sure Thing on my index, middle and pinkie nails and 2 coats of Sinful Colors Black on Black on my ring nail. I then slathered latex around all of the white nails as I as going to attempt platter and I knew it is a messy business. I have failed at splatter nail art before, so I thought I would try it with a toothbrush as it made sense to me that this would work and be easier. After covering my entire index finger in red polish and barely getting a fine spray onto my nails, I decided to attempt it with a straw again. Success! I think what I did wrong before with the straw was simply not putting enough polish on the end of the straw. I did end up with huge blotches of polish on some of my nails, but I really liked it. At this point I put on a coat of Seche Vite as some of the red splatter was rather thick and I didn’t want to drag it when I painted the lettering. Once the top coat was dry I used the nail art brush and black acrylic paint over the white nails as well as red acrylic paint over the black nail to spell out LIAR. This brush is super thin and very easy to work with. When I was testing it on paper I was able to get super thin lines which I have never been able to do with the nail art brushes that I own. I did have a little trouble with my black acrylic paint, it was a bit goopy and difficult to mix with such a thin and flexible brush.

I was really impressed with this brush and absolutely obsessed with this mani! I actually feel like freehanding something else soon, just because I have this awesome brush to do it with! If you would like to buy this you can purchase it here. The brush comes in an awesome plastic tube that you can store it in to protect it. This is what it looks like:

I think this is my favourite nail art of the year so far and definitely in my all time top 10. I absolutely adored this mani and you best believe every time I thought someone was lying to me I flashed it to them. LOL. I would really love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below. Don’t forget you can use my discount code to get 10% off non discounted items from bornprettystore 🙂

KBShimmer Make My Gray

wpid-purchased-myself-button.jpeg

Hi everyone! I have another gorgeous KBShimmer polish to show you today. I simply love crelly polishes (slightly translucent polishes with glitter particles). It took me ages to decide which KBshimmers I wanted to mule over to South Africa and this one made the cut 🙂 I also used proper nail vinyls for the first time in this mani. I have previously only used guides that I had purchased from bornprettystore and I expected them to be more or less the same. Read on to find out about my learning curve. Onto the nails.KBShimmer Make My Gray Revlon Cabana Queen zig zag nail vinylsKBShimmer Make My Gray Revlon Cabana Queen zig zag nail vinylsKBShimmer Make My Gray Revlon Cabana Queen zig zag nail vinylsKBShimmer Make My Gray Revlon Cabana Queen zig zag nail vinylsI started off with Revlon Calcium Gel Nail Hardener as my base coat to protect my nails. I painted 3 coats of KBShimmer Make My Gray on my thumb, index and pinkie.  Make My Gray is a light grey crelly with turquoise, gunmetal, pale aqua and coral hex glitters. Another perfect formula with glitters that come out of the bottle with ease. I did also leave this bottle upside down for a while before I used it. The reason I painted 3 coats was just to get more of the coral glitters onto my nails since I really love how they pop. The polish itself is opaque in 2 coats. On my middle and ring nails I painted 3 coats of Revlon Cabana Queen. Cabana Queen is a sheer light grey with a beautiful shimmer. Here I painted 3 coats for opacity. I applied liquid latex around the nails as I intended to do a gradient. Once the latex and polish was dry, I applied zig zag nail vinyls that I received as a gift from Whatsup Nails when I purchased my Creative Shop stamper from them. I used a make up sponge and China Glaze Peonies & Park Ave as well as Design Turquoise to sponge the gradient over the vinyls. I knew I had to remove the vinyls immediately, but what didn’t occur to me was that the vinyls would stick to and lift the latex as well. On my ring finger you can see the oops this created with the vinyl pattern near the cuticle. I have seen people use vinyls and latex together before (there are loads of videos on Instagram), but maybe I just need to practice or skip the latex when using vinyls. The vinyls are very different to the guides. They peel away from your base a lot easier and I’ve noticed that they leave much cleaner lines as well. I’m excited to try more vinyls now! You get some really funky patterns. The possibilities are endless! When I was done, I sealed everything in with a generous coat of Seche Vite.

Even though I messed up slightly with the vinyls, I still really LOVED this mani. I actually really love gradients and I’m enjoying wearing them. You will be seeing a lot more of them in future 😉 I would love to hear what you think of this mani down in the comments below 🙂

Extreme Lady Luck

Hi everyone! Today I have more gifts to show you. I have been so very blessed with tons of polish gifts lately. I am such a lucky girl! The polishes I have to show today came from Revlon and my Secret Santa box. When Revlon sponsored a prize for my 10 year bloggiversary and birthday giveaway, they sent a duplicate of the prize for me. Thanks Revlon! Let me show you the mani 🙂Revlon Lady Luck and L.A. Girl Extreme stamped with BP-28Revlon Lady Luck and L.A. Girl Extreme stamped with BP-28Revlon Lady Luck and L.A. Girl Extreme stamped with BP-28

I started off with an L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Revlon Gel Envy Lady Luck on my index and middle nails. Lady Luck is a bright pink creme with a beautiful golden shimmer. I am totally in love with this colour! I daresay that it borders on a neon, but it isn’t very obvious in the pictures. The formula was a little thick on this one, but I’m sure some polish thinner would help for that. I totes painted my toes with this the day after I did the mani. So pretty! On my ring and pinkie nails I painted 2 coats of L.A. Girl Extreme. This is a dusty lavender which also has a gold shimmer. I had no issues with this one and once all my nails were dry I stamped with essence black stampy polish and BP-28. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite. Ta da!

I would love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below 🙂

Nail Anarchy Christmas in July!

Gift Button

Hi everyone! July was an exciting month for the Nail Anarchy group. We decided last year already that we wanted to do Christmas in July and set up a Secret Santa gift exchange within the group. We used Elfster to set up the exchange and add items to our wishlists. We started it all up in January and had to wait an agonizing 6 months before we got to give and receive our gifts. Elfster allowed us to keep everything a secret. It’s a very cool site. It allows you to send anonymous messages to and from your elf…create wishlists of things you want, mark items as purchased, marks gifts as sent, acknowledge your gift, etc. You should really check it out if you need something like this. Eventually it was time to send off our gifts! I drew Thea from Madness Nails to purchase for. I was an eager beaver and ended up getting everything for her package way in advance. I just couldn’t wait! Some of the polishes she wanted were in store at the time and since they brand announced they are closing down I wasn’t sure if they would be around for the foreseeable future, so I snapped them up as soon as I could. She also wished for the stamper that changed my life and I HAD to get it for her. Anyhow, my package came from Briget of Because I Can fame (you should really subscribe to her YouTube channel – her vlogs are hilarious!). Let me show you all the goodies she got me!

How utterly spoiled was I? Thank you SO much for all my goodies B! The first chance I got to sit down and play with my goodies I used no less than 4 of them in one mani! Speaking of manis…of course we all had to do a Christmas themed Mani for Christmas in July 😀 This is what I came up with 🙂Nail Anarchy Christmas in JulyNail Anarchy Christmas in JulyNail Anarchy Christmas in July

I started with Revlon Calcium Gel Nail Hardener as a base coat to protect my nails. On my thumb, index and pinkie I painted 2 coats of Maskscara Gold Finger. Gold Finger is a lovely gold foil and is generally my go to gold in my collection. I used Barry M Christmas Tree as a topper over the gold nails. Christmas Tree contains small green hex and bar glitters, red snippet glitters and silver holographic stars suspended in a clear base. The base is not thick at all and the glitter pay off is awesome. I left the bottle upside down while I was at work so that any sunken glitter could become easily accessible, but it wasn’t necessary. I didn’t have to fish for stars either which is a huge plus. The glitter is really dense and sparkly so the stars kind of get lost on the nail if you don’t seek them out which is a pity. On my ring and middle nails I painted 1 coat of Revlon Gel Envy Sure Thing. This is my first time using this crisp white creme and I was suitably impressed. Finding a white polish that gives amazing coverage in 1 coat is not very common for me. I didn’t feel I needed an extra coat of white because I knew I was doing to do some art on them. Once the white was dry I used the straight handmade vinyls Briget made for me to tape off sections of my nails and I filled them in with China Glaze Just Be-Claws which is my favourite Christmassy red in my collection. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Briget! Thank you millions for my gorgeous box! *throws confetti*

While I was wearing this mani, the gold nails felt…familiar somehow…and then I realized…Nail Anarchy Christmas in July

Uncanny! It is definitely not the same, but they DO look similar. Two separate polishes isn’t a bad thing, because they are more versatile and you can mix and match them to create different looks. I just found this quite an interesting coincidence. What do you guys think of this mani? Don’t forget to check out what the other ladies did below! Have you ever done a nail related gift exchange? Tell me about it!

Bestie Twin Nails with Pish Posh Polish

wpid-purchased-myself-button.jpeg

Hi everyone! Today I have a Bestie Twin Nails post with none other than the fabulous Pish Posh Polish! Pish and I met on  Facebook in a nail group. Pish regularly does Twin Nail posts and I was so flattered when she asked me if I would like to do one with her. Excited and super nervous. Pish is an amazingly talented nail artist and I have huge insecurity issues. Pish suggested what we should do. Poor woman was limited to my available collection. As she is in the US she has easy access to so many gorgeous indies and polishes I can only dream of having, so we really had to work around what I have available. We did the best we could.Nimbus Butterfly Wing Nail Art

I started off with my L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted my middle and ring nail with 2 coats of essence wild white ways (gift from Coffee Couture). I am TOTALLY in love with this white! It went on like butter and gave beautiful coverage in just one coat. 1 coat was certainly enough as a base for nail art, but my OCD made me paint 2 anyway. On my pinkie and index I painted 2 coats of Revlon Girly (gift). Once my white bases were dry I tried to create Nimbus nail art using China Glaze Are You Jelly? and You Drive Me Coconuts. Nimbus nail art was invented by The Nailasaurus and you can find her tutorial here. Once I had achieved the look I wanted (sort of), I realized that Girly didn’t really match with the neons. The idea was to do jelly sandwiches on the pinky and index, so I found a solution. I painted a coat of You Drive Me Coconuts on my pinky over Girly. Luckily YDMC is a jelly, so it still retained the jelly sandwich look. On my index nail I covered Girly with a coat of Dollish Polish Purple Nurples. Over the Nimbus nails I used black acrylic paint and a striping brush to paint the butterfly wing design. I used white acrylic for the dots  on the bottom of the wings. Here are some solo shots of my nails:Nimbus Butterfly Wing Nail ArtNimbus Butterfly Wing Nail ArtI really hope you enjoyed this post. I know for sure Pish and I will be doing this again in the future. We would really love to hear your feedback in the comments below!

Wild and Willing

wpid-purchased-myself-button.jpeg

Hi everyone! The mani I’m showing you today was born out of frustration and I ended up loving it! Now that the PPSA Nail Challenge is over I was at a complete loss as to what to do with my nails. Zero inspiration. I tried something and ended up hating it so much I took it off before I even put a top coat on. I had been staring at my shelves all day trying to figure out what to do, so didn’t really have a Plan B. I looked around some more and grabbed Color Club Wild and Willing from my untried shelf. I had swatched it on my wheel earlier in the day while looking for options and felt like stamping something, so this happened:Color Club Wild and Willing stamped with BP-L003

Color Club Wild and Willing stamped with BP-L003

Color Club Wild and Willing stamped with BP-L003

Color Club Wild and Willing stamped with BP-L003 I started off with my L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Wild and Willing on all of my nails. Wild and Willing has fine colour shifting micro flakies in it and is opaque in 2 coats. When searching for swatches I found a lot of bloggers layered it over black and the results are amazing! Check out this swatch to see the amazing colour shift. The photos above were taking in my lightbox with natural sunlight, which is perhaps why I look like an oompa loompa with orange skin and why the colour shift isn’t shown nicely on the nails. It does translate well onto the nail though as you can see from the swatch post I linked to. I stamped with Revlon Gel Envy Royal Flush (press sample) using an image from bornprettystore plate BP-L003. I can’t wait to use more images from this plate! I’m absolutely in love with it! I thought to stamp in pink because of the pink colour shift in Wild and Willing. To finish off the design I added gold half round metal ball studs to the centre of each flower in the stamp using top coat to adhere them. I sealed it all in with a coat of Seche Vite.

I was so pleased with how these turned out. Usually when I don’t plan my nails in advance I end up not liking the result. This was a breath of fresh air! I do think when I wear Wild and Willing again I will layer it over black to get a more intense colour shift. What do you think of this design? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

PPSA Nail Challenge – Purple

Hi everyone! It’s time for the next prompt in the #PPSAnailchallenge 🙂 This entire month all my nail posts will be for the Polished Pretties South Africa Nail Challenge. Polished Pretties South Africa is a Facebook group started by the Nail Anarchy ladies and we decided to do a month long challenge and open it up to everyone. You don’t have to be a member of the group to participate, but if you have a love for polish, why not join our group anyway? The challenge is also not compulsory for group members. It’s all just for fun 🙂 Here are all the prompts and the dates:#PPSAnailchallengeToday I’ll be showing you my creation for the Purple prompt. I’m really stoked about this mani, because it is the very first time I have managed to make my own decals! Some people refer to it as reverse stamping or advanced stamping. I’ve tried this on a few previous occasions and never got it to work properly, so this was a small triumph for me. Let me show you what I came up with:

PPSA Nail Challenge Purple

PPSA Nail Challenge Purple

PPSA Nail Challenge PurpleI started off with an L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. On my index and pinkie I am wearing 2 coats of Sinful Colors Amethyst. This creme is totally delicious! I glides on like butter and cleans up like a dream too! It just so happens to be my favourite colour, so I’ll definitely be reaching for this again! For my decals I used essence black stampy polish to stamp with an image from BP-L003. I left the image on the stamper and filled it in with a dotting tool using Sinful Colors Amethyst, Revlon Gel Envy Showtime (press sample), Revlon Enchanting (gift), essence Elves Like Lilac and essence you wow’d me again. I top coated the image on the stamper with essence better than gel nails top coat and let it dry. I left the decals to dry overnight and was able to use them the next day when I had some more time. If you’d like to see a tutorial on how to make stamping decals, my girl Thea has one posted here. I applied the decals over tacky top coat to stick them to my nails. I thought I had to wait a fair while for it to go tacky, but it turns out that I could paint and apply the decal immediately when using the better than gel nails top coat. I smoothed out the decal with my finger, cut off excess with a small nail scissor and cleaned up the rest using acetone and my cleanup brush. I applied 2 decals to my Cinderella hand first and I really got better at it as I did more. It really is a good idea to push through and keep practicing!  I sealed everything in with a generous coat of Seche Vite.

I was so very chuffed with how these turned out and that I was finally able to make decals. From here the possibilities are endless! I’d love to hear what you think of these in the comments. Have you ever tried this technique? Also be sure to check out what everyone else did in the inlinkz below!
