Christmas Day Nails

Hi everyone! I know I said you’ve seen the last of the Christmas manis, but I wanted to show you what I wore on Christmas Day 🙂 When my friend Leebeesa was visiting from Ireland she brought me a few nail related gifts. She knows how much I love Christmas and brought me some gorgeous Christmas 3D nail charms. They really are beautiful! 3D Christmas Nail Charms3D Christmas Nail Charms3D Christmas Nail CharmsI started off with Tip Top Miraculous Results as my base coat to protect my nails. On my index, middle and pinkie nails I painted 2 coats of Sinful Colors Ruby Glisten. Even though I used this polish more than a year ago, I remembered that it was a cuticle flooder. The formula on this polish is very thin, so I was very careful not to put too much polish on my brush to ensure I don’t end up with red polish everywhere. This polish has a gorgeous red shimmer that isn’t evident in the photos, but can be seen in person. It really is a gorgeous vampy red! On my ring nail I painted 2 coats of Zoya Tomoko (gift). Tomoko was my Zoya lust have and I keep using it because I really do love it very much! I sealed all my nails in with Seche Vite. I attached the charms with nail glue. I only wore them for the day and took them off because I’m afraid of losing them. I have very recently lost a charm I was quite fond of so I’d rather err on the side of caution now.

I really loved this mani, the colours are gorgeous and with the charms it turned out to be a very Christmassy mani indeed!  I really hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas with loved ones, even if you don’t celebrate I hope that my readers enjoyed their day regardless.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Hi everyone! I reviewed piCture pOlish Obsession in this post and today I want to show you how I used it with the MoYou London Illusion 05 stamping plate (reviewed here) for a simple, but beautiful look. Both the plate and piCture pOlish were supplied for honest review by We Heart Nail Art. Let me show you the look I created.piCture pOlish Obsession stamped with MoYou London Illusion 05piCture pOlish Obsession stamped with MoYou London Illusion 05piCture pOlish Obsession stamped with MoYou London Illusion 05

I started off with a base coat of Revlon Calcium Gel Nail Hardener to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of piCture pOlish Obession on all of my nails (swatch and review here). Once that was dry I used Tip Top Hot Fudge, MoYou London Illusion 05 and my MoYou London rectangular marshmallow stamper to stamp this image on my middle and ring nails. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

I really loved this look. This image from the Illusion plate is so gorgeous and I think it looks sophisticated. Such a beautiful image! I would love to hear your thought in the comments below 🙂

piCture pOlish is exclusively available from We Heart Nail Art in South Africa. They also sell MoYou stamping plates, polish and stampers. Check out We Heart Nail Art’s shop and their other social media channels:

essence Walk On The Wild Side

Gift Button

Hi everyone! Today I want to show you a mani I created with more goodies from my Secret Santa box. The gift that keeps on giving 😉 Honestly when I saw this colour in the box I was quite unsure of it. It isn’t the type of colour I would normally choose. I knew exactly what I wanted to pair it with from my box and then this happened:essence walk on the wild side with gold foil accentsessence walk on the wild side with gold foil accentsessence walk on the wild side with gold foil accentsI started off with an L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of essence walk on the wild side. This polish is a deep forest green with a gorgeous green shimmer. This polish truly surprised me! It dries a touch darker on the nail than it looks in the bottle and is absolutely gorgeous! A stunning winter colour! Sometimes I just need to be pushed out of my comfort zone. I used a clear top coat for “glue” and a tweezer to apply the foil. On my other hand I did a full foil nail and didn’t really like how it looked, so I tore small pieces off and placed them. The foil is very thin and finicky. It is difficult to tear small pieces or to be precise about it and it tends to stick to surfaces, so sometimes it is hard to get it off your finger or tweezer to place it, so this was the best I could manage. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

What do you think of this mani? Have you ever worked with this type of foil? Any tips?

Hean Ordinary Misfit

Gift Button

Hey everyone! Today I have another mani created from the wonderful secret Santa box that I received from Because I Can. I just couldn’t wait till I’ve published my post showing you all the goodies on the 31st before diving into the pretties and using them! I was so super excited to discover a Hean Ordinary Misfit in my SS box! It was on my wishlist and I wanted it not only because it is a gorgeous colour, but also for sentimental reasons. You know by now Ordinary Misfit and I are friends, so owning her blog’s namesake polish was a no brainer 🙂 Let me show you what I did with her!Hean Ordinary Misfit and 2true Shade 7 stamped with bornpretty BP-L003Hean Ordinary Misfit and 2true Shade 7 stamped with bornpretty BP-L003Hean Ordinary Misfit and 2true Shade 7 stamped with bornpretty BP-L003

I started off with my L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. Somehow when planning this mani I complicated it so much. I realized afterwards that there was an easier way to do it and kicked myself. I painted 2 coats of Ordinary Misfit on my index and middle nails. This polish has the most divine formula. It is buttery goodness personified in polish. It is a dusty pink that definitely has a place in my sea of pink polishes. I painted 2 coats of 2True Shade 7 on my ring and pinkie nails. Shade 7 is a very fine glitter that is practically opaque in 1 coat. It also has a beautiful copper shift in certain light. I did flood my cuticles with this polish a few times while painting, but I feel like the finish and gorgeous colour were totally worth any clean up effort required. Once that was dry I taped off the triangles on my middle and ring nails and painted them alternating the colours, removing the tape immediately. Once that was dry I taped the triangles off again and stamped using essence black stampy polish and BP-L003. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite. Afterwards I realized it would have been easier to stamp the entire nail before taping off sections and then just filling in the solid pieces. Duh.

I hope you like what I came up with 🙂 Have you ever complicated something that should have been simple to do if you had just thought of it? Let me know in the comments below!

MoYou London Princess 10

Gift Button

Hi everyone! Today I want to show you a mani I created with gifts I received in my secret Santa box for Nail Anarchy Christmas in July. I’ll have a post up about the box I received on the last Friday of this month with our Christmas in July nail challenge posts 🙂 One of the gifts I received was my very first MoYou London stamping plate! I was SO excited! I really love the plate my secret Santa chose and couldn’t wait to try it out! Here is a photo of the plate (Princess 10):

MoYou London Princess Collection 10 and Loose GlitterMoYou London Princess Collection 10 and Loose GlitterMoYou London Princess Collection 10 and Loose GlitterI started off with an L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. Unfortunately neither of the purple polishes I used have names. The lilac is a Revolution polish that I received as a gift. My friend left the country and passed on all her polish to me. A lot of them were gloopy. I tried to fix this one with thinner, but it seems hopeless. I will test it for stamping and if it doesn’t work I am afraid I’ll have to toss it. The dark purple I received in my secret Santa box. It is a deep plum colour and the brand name on the bottle is Glintz. I was going to do a glitter placement accent nail, but I dropped the first piece of glitter onto my nail and couldn’t move it. I tried a pattern and couldn’t get it to look good, so I decided to cover the entire nail with the loose glitter. There are probably 5 coats of top coat holding those suckers together. Once the gradient had dried on my other nails I used Tip Top Armour Plate and the MoYou London Princess 10 plate to stamp the same image on all of my nails. I sealed it all in with a coat of Seche Vite. Ta da!

I would love to hear what you think if this in the comments below 🙂

PPSA Nail Challenge – Go Wild With Dots

Purchased Myself Button

Hi everyone! It’s time for the next prompt in the #PPSAnailchallenge 🙂 This entire month all my nail posts will be for the Polished Pretties South Africa Nail Challenge. Polished Pretties South Africa is a Facebook group started by the Nail Anarchy ladies and we decided to do a month long challenge and open it up to everyone. You don’t have to be a member of the group to participate, but if you have a love for polish, why not join our group anyway? The challenge is also not compulsory for group members. It’s all just for fun 🙂 Here are all the prompts and the dates:#PPSAnailchallengeToday I’m going to show you what I did for the “Go Wild With Dots” prompt. I’m not sure exactly how “wild” one can go with dots, but I dotted none the less. This is what I came up with:PPSA Nail Challenge Go Wild With DotsPPSA Nail Challenge Go Wild With DotsPPSA Nail Challenge Go Wild With DotsI started off with an L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of essence wonderfuel on all of my nails. You can’t really tell how amazingly gorgeous this polish is underneath the dots, but you can get an idea from looking at the bottle. It is a dark purple polish with a fierce blue shimmer that gives you an almost duochrome effect. Absolutely stunning! For the pink dots I used Nubar Amazon Coral and the silver dots are Tip Top Armour Plate. I used 2 different sized dotting tools and dotted at random, it’s the only way I know. I can’t dot uniform dots to save my life, so this had to do! Luckily there are lots of dot designs that don’t require uniformity!

What do you think of this mani? I would love to hear in the comments below. Don’t forget to check out all the other ladies’ creations on the inlinkz 🙂

PPSA Nail Challenge – Unicorn

wpid-purchased-myself-button.jpeg

Hi everyone! It’s time for the next prompt in the #PPSAnailchallenge 🙂 This entire month all my nail posts will be for the Polished Pretties South Africa Nail Challenge. Polished Pretties South Africa is a Facebook group started by the Nail Anarchy ladies and we decided to do a month long challenge and open it up to everyone. You don’t have to be a member of the group to participate, but if you have a love for polish, why not join our group anyway? The challenge is also not compulsory for group members. It’s all just for fun 🙂 Here are all the prompts and the dates:#PPSAnailchallengeOf course I have already done the red prompt, so it was time for Unicorn. I was SO nervous about this one. How on earth was I going to do UNICORN nails? I hit Pinterest and found a YouTube tutorial with a freehanded unicorn and it was so pretty I decided to give it a go. This is the result:PPSAnailchallenge Unicorn

PPSAnailchallenge Unicorn

PPSAnailchallenge UnicornI started off with an L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of China Glaze It’s a Trap-eze on all of my nails except my ring nail. It’s a Trap-eze was as elusive to me as unicorns are for almost 2 years. I was so very happy when I finally got my polished paws on it and was really glad for the opportunity to pull it out again! What a gorgeous polish it is! On my ring nail I painted 2 coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. Once it was dry I used a striping brush and acrylic paint to freehand the unicorn, following the tutorial. I included orange, pink and green in the mane to compliment the glitter in It’s a Trap-eze. I couldn’t leave out purple, so that’s in there too. I filled in the Unicorn horn with Tip Top Armour Plate and covered the entire nail in China Glaze Fairy Dust. Everything is sealed in with 2 coats of Seche Vite just to smooth things out.

Unicorns are supposed to be magical creatures and apparently rainbows and unicorns go together like glitter and crellies, so I drew ispiration from that when choosing the polish I would wear on the rest of my nails. I was over the moon with how these turned out! I love love loved it! Everyone that saw them loved them too! My grandmother doesn’t usually pay much attention to my nails, even if I show her. I showed her these and she looked at it and said “Wow that is pretty, is it a sticker?” I told her it wasn’t and that I had painted the unicorn myself and she said “Wow! That’s art!”. LOL. I’ve been trying to explain to her I do nail art for like 2 years. I think she gets it now 😉

I’d love to hear your opinions on this mani in the comments below 🙂 Are you taking part in the challenge?

May Nail Anarchy Challenge

Gift Button

Hi everyone! Time for the Nail Anarchy challenge for May! I’m so nervous and excited about this one. When Briget threw out the theme I was like…Nope. Not at all inspired. No ideas. I actually even contemplated sitting this one out. The theme she chose was to depict your favourite character from a book/movie/TV series/cartoon. I had NO idea what to do. With a little encouragement from my ever present nail muse Ordinary Misfit, I came up with an idea I liked and decided to just go with it. I had picked up some acrylic paint from Planet Nails and since I didn’t have any stamping plates that had images that fit my idea, I had to freehand it. I decided to do Little Mermaid nails. This is what I came up with:

Little Mermaid Nails

Little Mermaid Nails

Little Mermaid Nails

Little Mermaid NailsI do not have the skill needed to paint faces, but I could manage this. Apparently it isn’t super easy to make out what is going on here, but on my index and middle nails you see Ariel’s tail swimming away from Ursula’s tentacle which I depicted on my ring and pinkie nails.

I started off with my usual base coat of Tip Top Miraculous Results to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Barry M Pacific (gift) on all of my nails. Pacific is the perfect duochrome for an ocean theme as it shifts between blue, green and sometimes flashes some purple. I posted a swatch pic in this post. I didn’t expect to cover quite so much of it up, but I still think it works. All of the art work was done with acrylic paint and a nail art brush. The orange and red that you see is coral and I also painted a little piece of seaweed on my middle nail behind Ariel’s tail. I filled in her tail with Sinful Colors Nail Junkie. How PERFECT is this glitter for mermaid nails?! I had to include a sun shot in the photos because the acrylic colours and glitter really came alive in the sun! On the last pic I included a quick shot of my thumb. I stamped the starfish using essence magic carpet magnetic polish and BP-10 from bornprettystore (you can buy it here*).

I ended up LOVING this mani and I really enjoyed wearing it. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below 🙂 While you’re down there, check out what the other ladies did on the inlinkz 🙂

Satin Matte Roses

Gift Button

Hi everyone! Recently I hosted a baby shower for my bestie and she bought me a gift to say thank you. So sweet! She bought me a beautiful necklace that I had eyed while we were on a shopping trip together months ago as well the essence satin matte top coat that she knew I wanted, but I couldn’t buy right now. I was excited to try the satin matte effect, so my very next mani I decided to use it! Let me show you what I came up with.

L'Oreal Shocking Pink with essence satin matte top coat

L'Oreal Shocking Pink with essence satin matte top coat

I started off with my usual Tip Top base coat. I painted 2 coats of L’Oreal Shocking Pink (gift) on all of my nails. Once that was dry I used my Born Pretty Store plate BP-03 (press sample) and Sinful Colors Black on Black to stamp the rose images on all of my nails. The roses on my ring nail are stamped individually as it is a small individual image on the plate. I was quite pleased with my stamping aim! I let it sit for a minute and for the first time realized that this top coat is not my beloved Seche and might just drag my stamping. With this in mind I applied essence satin matte top coat and floated my brush and it didn’t drag AT ALL. I was so chuffed! It also dried quite quickly. If you’re wondering what the difference between satin matte and matte is, Ordinary Misfit has a lovely comparison with photos here that show you the difference between the two.

I really loved wearing this mani! I was fascinated by the finish. It is definitely a winner. I also wore this to the #CTMeetUp and received compliments all around 🙂 I would love to hear your thoughts on this look in the comments below. Have you ever tried a satin matte polish? Do you like the finish?

Mother’s Day Nails 2015

Gift Button

Hi everyone! A happy Mother’s Day to all those that celebrated yesterday. Mother’s Day can be such a bittersweet day for a lot of people and I find it hard not to think about those who have lost their mothers and those who yearn to be mothers on a day like yesterday. I hope it was a blessed day for everyone none the less. My husband worked late the previous night, into Sunday morning, so I didn’t get breakfast in bed. Instead I got up to make breakfast for myself and the kids. Maybe when they’re older someone will find it in their heart to get up for me 😛 On Friday Elijah brought me a small bottle of bubble bath with a “Happy Mother’s Day” note attached which they were given at school. I went to church with Gabby where the mothers gathered for tea and cake after service to celebrate. When I got home I painted my nails and soon we were off to my mother in law for lunch. All in all it wasn’t a bad day. Let me show you the mani I wore 🙂

Revlon Coy and Pink Glaze

Revlon Coy and Pink Glaze

I started off with my usual Tip Top base coat to protect my nails. I painted 3 coats of Revlon Coy on all of my nails. Coy is the bottle in the second picture. It is a lovely baby pink creme. The formula was good on this one. I didn’t flood my cuticles at all when painting. It definitely required 3 coats though, which isn’t unusual for a light pink polish. I have a similar colour in another brand which also requires 3 coats to even out nicely. It really is a gorgeous pink and I am happy to have another! On my middle and ring nails I added a coat of Revlon Pink Glaze over Coy. Pink Glaze is a gorgeous fuschia shimmer suspended in a clear base. I am so cross that I couldn’t get the fuschia to show up in any of my photos because it is very apparent in person. Not only is it very easy to see, but it is GORGEOUS! I cannot WAIT to layer it over a dark colour like black or purple. It is going to look amazing! Perhaps it will show up better in photos then. On my middle nail I placed a sticker from a sheet that I received at Born Pretty Store (press sample), I will be reviewing it for the blog soon so keep an eye out for that and I added a gold stud from one of my nail wheels on my ring nail (also from BPS*). I received these 2 polishes in the #CTMeetUp goodie bag when I attended over the weekend. We also got some other goodies, but I will include those in a separate blog post 🙂 Here they are on their own:

Revlon Pink Glaze and Coy

What do you think of this mani and these colours? I like wearing feminine manis on Mother’s Day, just like I did last year. Let me know what you think in the comments below 🙂
