Breast Cancer Awareness Nails 2015

wpid-purchased-myself-button.jpegGift Button

Hi everyone! It’s that time of the year again when everyone is doing manis for breast cancer awareness. This year I decided to recreate my very first breast cancer awareness mani which I did in 2013, but I wanted to improve on it. Here is the original:

wpid-PicsArt_1381125654029.jpgThis mani is also my most popular pin on Pinterest. Every year during October people find it and start pinning it. When that happened this year I thought it was time to bring it back to life. Let me show you what I came up with for my Breast Cancer Awareness Nails 2015:Breast Cancer Awareness Nails 2016wpid-picsart_10-15-08.15.15.jpgBreast Cancer Awareness Nails 2016I started off with Revlon Calcium Gel Nail Hardener as a base coat to protect my nails. On my index and ring nails I painted 2 coats of Sinful Colors Black on Black. On my middle and pinkie nails I painted 1 coat of MPolish Fresh Perspective (gift). I sponged L.A. Girl Sprinkle onto my index nail. On my pinkie I sponged L’Oreal Top Coat Confetti (gift). On my ring nail I used MPolish Fresh Perspective and my BP-26 (press sample) to stamp the awareness ribbons. On my middle nail I used Black on Black and a dotting tool to paint the bra. The holographic hex in the middle I fished out of Tip Top Rocky Road like I did on the previous mani. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Ladies, don’t forget to check yourselves. Do regular breast examinations and if you are 40 or older, go to have your annual mammograms. Do not put it off. Do not ignore any sign that something is different. Early detection will greatly improve your chances of survival. It is scary to find something, not know what it is. I know. I’ve been through that medically, but you’ll never know what it is unless you get it checked. If you never go, you will never get the help you need. I encourage every single woman out there to check herself and be checked!

I really loved how this mani turned out and enjoyed wearing it very much! I got loads of compliments on it too. I would love to hear your thought in the comments below 🙂

Extreme Lady Luck

Hi everyone! Today I have more gifts to show you. I have been so very blessed with tons of polish gifts lately. I am such a lucky girl! The polishes I have to show today came from Revlon and my Secret Santa box. When Revlon sponsored a prize for my 10 year bloggiversary and birthday giveaway, they sent a duplicate of the prize for me. Thanks Revlon! Let me show you the mani 🙂Revlon Lady Luck and L.A. Girl Extreme stamped with BP-28Revlon Lady Luck and L.A. Girl Extreme stamped with BP-28Revlon Lady Luck and L.A. Girl Extreme stamped with BP-28

I started off with an L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Revlon Gel Envy Lady Luck on my index and middle nails. Lady Luck is a bright pink creme with a beautiful golden shimmer. I am totally in love with this colour! I daresay that it borders on a neon, but it isn’t very obvious in the pictures. The formula was a little thick on this one, but I’m sure some polish thinner would help for that. I totes painted my toes with this the day after I did the mani. So pretty! On my ring and pinkie nails I painted 2 coats of L.A. Girl Extreme. This is a dusty lavender which also has a gold shimmer. I had no issues with this one and once all my nails were dry I stamped with essence black stampy polish and BP-28. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite. Ta da!

I would love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below 🙂

Nail Anarchy Christmas in July!

Gift Button

Hi everyone! July was an exciting month for the Nail Anarchy group. We decided last year already that we wanted to do Christmas in July and set up a Secret Santa gift exchange within the group. We used Elfster to set up the exchange and add items to our wishlists. We started it all up in January and had to wait an agonizing 6 months before we got to give and receive our gifts. Elfster allowed us to keep everything a secret. It’s a very cool site. It allows you to send anonymous messages to and from your elf…create wishlists of things you want, mark items as purchased, marks gifts as sent, acknowledge your gift, etc. You should really check it out if you need something like this. Eventually it was time to send off our gifts! I drew Thea from Madness Nails to purchase for. I was an eager beaver and ended up getting everything for her package way in advance. I just couldn’t wait! Some of the polishes she wanted were in store at the time and since they brand announced they are closing down I wasn’t sure if they would be around for the foreseeable future, so I snapped them up as soon as I could. She also wished for the stamper that changed my life and I HAD to get it for her. Anyhow, my package came from Briget of Because I Can fame (you should really subscribe to her YouTube channel – her vlogs are hilarious!). Let me show you all the goodies she got me!

How utterly spoiled was I? Thank you SO much for all my goodies B! The first chance I got to sit down and play with my goodies I used no less than 4 of them in one mani! Speaking of manis…of course we all had to do a Christmas themed Mani for Christmas in July 😀 This is what I came up with 🙂Nail Anarchy Christmas in JulyNail Anarchy Christmas in JulyNail Anarchy Christmas in July

I started with Revlon Calcium Gel Nail Hardener as a base coat to protect my nails. On my thumb, index and pinkie I painted 2 coats of Maskscara Gold Finger. Gold Finger is a lovely gold foil and is generally my go to gold in my collection. I used Barry M Christmas Tree as a topper over the gold nails. Christmas Tree contains small green hex and bar glitters, red snippet glitters and silver holographic stars suspended in a clear base. The base is not thick at all and the glitter pay off is awesome. I left the bottle upside down while I was at work so that any sunken glitter could become easily accessible, but it wasn’t necessary. I didn’t have to fish for stars either which is a huge plus. The glitter is really dense and sparkly so the stars kind of get lost on the nail if you don’t seek them out which is a pity. On my ring and middle nails I painted 1 coat of Revlon Gel Envy Sure Thing. This is my first time using this crisp white creme and I was suitably impressed. Finding a white polish that gives amazing coverage in 1 coat is not very common for me. I didn’t feel I needed an extra coat of white because I knew I was doing to do some art on them. Once the white was dry I used the straight handmade vinyls Briget made for me to tape off sections of my nails and I filled them in with China Glaze Just Be-Claws which is my favourite Christmassy red in my collection. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Briget! Thank you millions for my gorgeous box! *throws confetti*

While I was wearing this mani, the gold nails felt…familiar somehow…and then I realized…Nail Anarchy Christmas in July

Uncanny! It is definitely not the same, but they DO look similar. Two separate polishes isn’t a bad thing, because they are more versatile and you can mix and match them to create different looks. I just found this quite an interesting coincidence. What do you guys think of this mani? Don’t forget to check out what the other ladies did below! Have you ever done a nail related gift exchange? Tell me about it!

Magnetic Butterflies

Gift Button

Hi everyone! Today I’ll be showing you my second attempt at decals or reverse stamping. I made my first set of decals for this manicure and was SO BUMMED when the top coat I used dried to a milky/clouded finish. SO annoying! It’s an essence top coat that I purchased specifically for making decals and I’ve only used it once or twice, now I’m going to have to chuck it. I can’t use it for decals or as a top coat anymore. I tested it out on my nail wheel as a top coat and it also completely obscured the polish underneath. POO. I’m not sure if I accidentally got some coloured polish in the bottle or if something else went wrong, but unless I can think of another use for it, I’m just gonna toss it. I already knew that a lot of my other top coats don’t work for decals. Most of them distort the images or “melt” the stamp on the stamper. So I wondered if I could make the decals using my matte or satin matte top coat. I figured it would work since they don’t drag nail art, so I gave it a shot. I made the decals a day ahead of time because I’m afraid I’ll be too impatient while I’m doing my nails and mess them up and have to start over. Let me show you the end result before I get into the nitty gritty 🙂

Magnetic Polish with Butterfly Reverse Stamping

Magnetic Polish with Butterfly Reverse Stamping

Magnetic Polish with Butterfly Reverse StampingI started off with my usual L.A. Girl base coat to protect my nails. I painted one thick coat of magnetic polish on all of my nails. This polish was a gift from Leeza. It was the oldest untried in my stash and I really felt I should get around to using it. It has probably been standing there for almost 2 years. It just says “Magnetic Nail Polish” on the bottle and doesn’t have any name. The chevron magnet is on top of the lid of the bottle. On my index and pinkie I painted quite a thick coat, turned the brush around and held the magnet super close to my nail. I don’t find that the magnets are conducive to the curve of a nail. I think a curved magnet would do much better as I can never seem to get the magnetic effect right down to the sides of my nails. I didn’t use the magnet on my middle and ring nails because I knew I was going to cover them with the decals. I made the decals using the top image on PUEEN 39 which has some beautiful butterflies and essence wild white ways. I am completely in love with this white creme from essence and the fact that it stamps is just a huge bonus! It’s not super opaque, but it certainly shows up well, even on this dark colour. I filled in the largest butterfly with essence I don’t need money, honey. The pink butterfly is China Glaze Neon & On & On and the green butterfly is L.A. Girl Leap. I used my essense Satin Matte top coat to seal the stamp and left it to dry overnight. When I used the decals the following day they were quite brittle and I had to be very careful not to tear them. I am not sure if using them immediately after they had dried would have made a difference. I might just try that next time. I still felt like it needed a little something extra…so I added Catrice Glitterazzi over the butterflies. When Glitterazzi flashed blue it looks so cool with the I don’t need money, honey butterfly! I sealed it all in with a coat of Seche Vite. I only top coated the magnetic nails once they were dry as you can lose some of the magnetic effect otherwise.

What do you think of these? Tell me about a workaround you’ve had to use when your nail art supplies failed you in the comments below!

Princess and Knight Nails

Purchased Myself Button

Hi everyone! As always I interrupt the Valentine’s Day manicures to show you what I was wearing on my nails for my son’s birthday party. Last year I did a mani I was super proud of, my Superman nails turned out so great. About 2 weeks before the party this year I came across a design on The Lacquerologist’s blog which I thought would fit the theme beautifully. I don’t think mine turned out quite as beautiful as hers, but I’ll take it! This is what I ended up with:

Princess and Knight Nail Art

Princess and Knight Nail Art

I started off with my regular Tip Top base coat to protect my natural nails. I painted two coats of Tip Top Speck-tacular (blue) and Tip Top Love That Shine (pink) on my nails alternating colours. The blue nails represent my son, the knight and the pink nails my daughter, the princess. On the pink nails I added crown stickers from the same pack that I used for her 2nd birthday. On the blue nails I freehanded little castle type things using a striping brush and  essence As Long As You Love Me (grey), an L.A. girl mini I won from Ordinary Misfit (black) and I filled in the flags with a dotting tool using Sinful Colors Ruby Ruby. I sealed it all in with a coat of Seche Vite.

I was happy with the way these turned out and once again I thought my dominant hand (left) turned out better than my non dominant hand. What do you think? Are they appropriate for the theme? Let me know in the comments below!

L.A. Girl 3D Effect Sparkle Ruby

Hi everyone! I’m still on holiday! Yay! Not for much longer I’m afraid, I’ll be heading back to work on the 12th of January. How about you? I have a stunning polish to show you today. I actually really love all the polishes I have from this collection. L.A. Girl has come out with so many cool “effect” polishes lately and I actually own quite a lot of them! I have quite a few from their texture collection as well as a couple of glitter polishes from their Splatter collection and a few of the 3D effect holographic polishes. The one I am showing you today is one of the scattered holos. Let’s get to it!

I started off with a base coat of OPI Nail Envy. I painted 2 coats of L.A. Girl Sparkle Ruby on all of my nails except my ring nail. Sparkle Ruby is a gorgeous deep red or maroon jelly polish with scattered holo particles throughout. This polish was quite opaque and I was able to get it opaque in two coats. It was also not a pain to clean up as some reds can be. On my ring nail I painted 2 coats of Sinful Colors Black on Black and placed 3 gold studs purchased from Born Pretty Store (purchase here*) from biggest (3 mm) to smallest (1 mm) from the cuticle upwards and sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite. Well that was easy, wasn’t it? The result:

L.A. Girl 3D Effects Sparkle Ruby

I loved wearing this mani. When I thought of how to describe it, the word ‘elegant’ seemed fitting. I literally felt so polished with this on my nails, like a real lady 😉 The holographic effect is also truly beautiful and has a lot of purple shimmers in it. I tried very hard to get a shot of the holo, but failed miserably. Pretty Girl Science has a couple of great swatches of Sparkle Ruby, Brilliant Blue and Teal Dimension from the collection in this post, head on over and have a look if you want to see the glorious scattered holos these polishes have to offer!

What do you think of this mani? It was simple to do, would you give it a try? Let me know in the comments below!

Purple Effect

Hello everyone! Two days after Christmas my mani chipped really badly and I needed to do a quick paint as not to sport naked nails. Since my love for polish blossomed, I just can’t stand to wear them naked. I did so for 32 years of my life without a second thought, but once the bug bit, I was hooked for life! I decided to pull out one of my untrieds that I’ve been looking forward to wearing and just do a plain mani. So this is actually more of a swatch post, with only 1 polish 😛 I do, however, have multiple photos because I just needed to capture this polish in all it’s glory.

I started off with my usual Tip Top base coat and painted 2 easy coats of L.A. Girl Purple Effect from the 3D collection on all of my nails. This is a dark purple jelly polish packed with scattered holographic particles. This polish removed like a dream too! It is rather opaque for a jelly. I tried 3 coats on one of my nails (not pictured) and I didn’t feel it made enough difference to warrant another coat. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite. The result:

Isn’t that just beautiful?! I really love this polish! I didn’t even feel it needed anything added to it to make it awesome. This baby in the sun? Amazing! The photo really doesn’t do it justice.

What do you guys think of this polish? Do you think you could rock it? Let me know down below 🙂

Happy Holly-Days!

Hello lovely readers! Today I have my third last Christmas mani to show you. I’ll be publishing my December Nail Anarchy mani on Christmas Eve and my Christmas day nails sometime next week. Somehow this year I felt like I had more ideas than time, but there is always next year to do more Christmas stuff. Wow. Christmas is in this week and I’m already talking about next year’s Christmas manis. Let me pull myself towards myself and show you what I’ve done 🙂

I started off with my usual Tip Top base coat. I painted all my nails with 2 coats of Tip Top Armour Plate. Armour Plate is my favourite silver foil and stamps like a dream too. This really is my go to silver and I’m hunting for a back up of it now that Tip Top is closing down. On my thumb, index and pinkie nails I painted two coats of L.A. Girl Speckle. Speckle is from the Splatter collection and has sparkly red and matte white hexes with smaller white hexes suspended in a clear base. You definitely need to blob and spread this one. I used a striping brush and essence roller coaster to paint holly leaves on my middle and ring nails. To accent the leaves I used the same brush and Tip Top We Have an Agreenmint. I finished off by adding 3 red rhinestones between the holly leaves to represent the berries. I sealed it all in with 2 generous coats of Seche Vite. The result:

Holly Christmas Nail Art

I’m quite pleased with how these turned out considering it was my first attempt at holly leaves. What do you think of these? Be sure to let me know in the comments below!

Brilliant Blue Snowflakes

I referred to my struggles trying to paint snowflakes in this post. I would, however, not be deterred! Even after I was extremely frustrated trying to freehand the snowflakes on my previous attempt, I tried a different brush and regular polish instead of acrylic paint and watched quite a few YouTube tutorials to try and do better. Let me show you what happened.

I started off with my regular Tip Top base coat. I painted 2 coats of L.A. Girl Brilliant Blue on all of my nails. Brilliant Blue is a dark blue scattered holographic polish from the L.A. Girl 3D collection. The formula was good and I didn’t have application issues, although this polish dries fast and if you go over the same spot twice too quickly it will create a bald spot on the nail. The texture felt like a jelly when applying it. I borrowed this polish from my friend. It is one of the 3D polishes I passed up on since I’m not really a fan of blues and personally I don’t feel that I *need* it in my collection. There is nothing wrong with it, but personal preference prevails. Once that was fairly dry I used a striping brush and Sally Hansen Sugar Fix white textured polish to free hand snowflakes. I went to shower and when I scrubbed my nails I brushed most of the polish off of my middle nail. I repainted it and then free handed the snowflake with Tip Top Armour Plate and the same striping brush. I sealed in all the nails that didn’t have texture on them with Seche Vite. The result:

L.A. Girl Brilliant Blue with free hand snowflakes

I was really MEH about these. I didn’t feel the snowflakes came out very well, more specifically the white one. I think the textured polish is perhaps a little thick and I wasn’t able to get thinner lines using it. I think the silver snowflake turned out much better! Perhaps because it was my 5th attempt. All that being said, I will most likely rather get a snowflake stamping plate before I attempt snowflakes again. Guys, snowflakes are really hard to do! Hats off to people who can get them looking decent just by free handing them!

While I was photographing this mani, Gabby ran into the room. I put down the polish to pick her up and put her on my lap and she promptly stuck her hand in my lightbox and picked up the bottle. She wanted in on the action! It was so hard to get her to sit still, but…

Gabby Nail ModelHow cute is that?! 🙂

What do you think of my snowflakes? Be sure to let me know in the comments below!

Christmas Minions!

Purchased Myself Button

Hi everyone! How on EARTH are we halfway through December?! Can someone please just sit me down and explain this to me? I just can’t even!  Anyhoo, since I started doing nail art, so many people have asked me to do minion nails. At some point it seemed like everyone  was doing it and I was never really extremely inspired to try it myself. At least not until a colleague posted this link to my Facebook timeline. You can find a video tutorial for these on Youtube, here. It is not the first time that someone has posted minions to my timeline and it is not the first time someone has asked that I do them. So finally, here it is. My most requested nail art, with a Christmassy spin!

I started off with my regular Tip Top base coat. I painted my thumb, index and pinkie nails with 2 coats of Revlon Revlon Red and my middle and index with 3 coats of essence wanna be your sunshine. On the yellow nails I went in with Revlon Red to paint the hats and the coats on the top and bottom of the nails. I used a striping brush and Sinful Colors Black on Black to paint stripes on the yellow nails as well as the red nails. I also painted small smiles for my minion’s mouths with the same striping brush. I used an L.A. Girl silver mini and the striping brush to paint belt buckles over the black stripes on the red nails to turn them into Santa belts! I used the same silver and my largest dotting tool to make large dots on the black stripes to form the base of the goggles that the minions wear. At this stage I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite. I used a slightly smaller dotting tool and Sally Hansen Sugar Fix white textured polish to fill in the trim on the hats and the jackets of the minions. I placed a dot of nail glue on the silver dots and attached googley eyes that I had purchased from a craft store to finish off the minions. The result:

Christmas Minion Nail Art

I really love these! I think they turned out great for a first minion attempt and I really enjoyed wearing them. The googley eyes were so much fun to play with! I also liked the textured trim, just a little something different to give the look a bit of dimension. The googley eyes are about 3 mm high, so I figured I would make a little more of the design 3 D by incorporating the texture as well 😉 When I showed these to Elijah and asked them what they were he said ‘I know! They are Gru’s cousins!’ I had to laugh!

I really hope you liked these as much as I did. Be sure to let me know what you think in the comments below!
