Hi everyone! I have an exciting review for you today. The lovely Shann from We Heart Nail Art asked me if I would be willing to review some items from her store. If there is one thing that the nail polish community in South Africa are deprived of, it’s indies or independent nail polish brands. Indies are different from mainstream brands in that they are not mass produced and usually are of a very high quality. Shann saw a gap in our market and decided to start importing indie brands that we would usually not have access to without struggling with exchange rates/customs/SAPO. Can you hear the angels sing?!

One of the brands that Shann chose to import is piCture pOlish. piCture pOlish is an Australian indie brand that is 5 free. This means that the polishes are not only made without the 3 common chemicals found in nail polish (Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde), but also without 2 other very dangerous chemicals (Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor). piCture pOlish also contains no artificial fragrances or flavours, is vegan friendly and cruelty free. Wow! That’s a lot of boxes for any beauty brand to check! Currently We Heart Nail Art is the sole importer for piCture pOlish in South Africa and are listed on their website as an international stockist. When faced with the very difficult decision of which polish to choose, I finally settled on piCture pOlish Obsession to swatch and review for you. It’s PURPLE! Let me show you swatches of this beauty! piCture pOlish Obsession SwatchpiCture pOlish Obsession Swatch 2wpid-picsart_09-09-07.37.41.jpgShown above are 2 coats over a base coat with no top coat. Obsession is a limited edition shade in the piCture pOlish store, so if you love it, you might want to get right on that! The application was super easy and absolute perfection at 2 coats. This polish glided on and built up beautifully. While this polish is gorgeous indoors, I literally gasped when I saw it spring to life in the sun. I just knew I had to show you how amazing it looks! I also have some photos to show you with top coat.piCture pOlish Obsession Swatch with Top CoatpiCture pOlish Obsession Swatch with Top Coat sunlightAs you can see the top coat shines it up a bit and will of course extend the wear time of your polish. Currently piCture pOlish retails for R180 each on the We Heart Nail Art website. I understand that it seems pretty steep for just one bottle of polish, but there are several factors one should take into consideration when deciding whether or not you want to spend the money. piCture pOlish is a big deal. Even the nail addicts in the United States who have access to hundreds of indie brands go gaga over these polishes. Currently OPI retails for about R170 per bottle. OPI is a good brand, but it is freely available and in my opinion lacks the collector’s item factor and is not nearly as exclusive as piCture pOlish. They also offer very unique polishes which you won’t find duplicates for with other brands.

Still not convinced? Go and check out the We Heart Nail Art website. If the array of polishes available there do not make you drool, then I don’t know. I have a few more items from the store which I will be reviewing, so be sure to come and check out future posts. You can also find We Heart Nail Art on their other social media channels:
