January Nail Anarchy Challenge

Purchased Myself Button

Hi everyone! It’s that time again! Can you BELIEVE January is over already?! I swear it feels like my life is going by in a blur. Remember how long the days felt when you were a kid? My husband and I were talking about it the other day and wondering whether the days feel long for our kids even though they are flying by for us. I digress! Today I have the 3rd Nail Anarchy challenge to show you. This month it was Mama Zombie‘s turn to pick the theme and she came up with Summer Skittles! As the month went on this theme caused some intense debate in our WhatsApp chat. Some of us felt that a true skittle means a different design on each nail, while others felt that different colours with the same design also counted. I threw out the question to a blogging group on Facebook and the consensus was that both count as skittles. I decided to do a different design on all my nails and I knocked 3 untrieds off of my list while I was at it! Woot! I really need to dig into my untrieds with every mani I do to try and stave off the guilt of buying more polish. It does mean my older polishes don’t often get pulled out, which is also a pity. How do people with thousands of bottles of polish manage?! Let me show you what I came up with for this challenge:

I started off with my usual Tip Top base coat to protect my natural nails. I painted 3 coats of Nubar Prize on my middle, ring and thumb nails. Prize is a gorgeous dark pink polish with loads of holographic glitter scattered throughout. On my index I painted 3 coats of Nubar Amazon Coral and on my pinkie 3 coats of Orange Cream. Amazon Coral is a beautiful pink polish and Orange Cream is a light orange that leans towards peach (which is why I bought it). These were opaque in 2 coats, but I felt they all needed a 3rd to even them out. The formula on all of these polishes was great, despite needing 3 coats, they applied easily and the consistency was good. Once my nails were fairly dry I used a fan brush and Amazon Coral to fan the pink stripes over my pinkie nail. I used Amazon Coral and Orange Cream with my largest dotting tool to make the large dots on my ring nail and turned the dotting tool over for the smaller dots – I went over the dots a second time for better opacity. On my middle nail I used Amazon Coral and Orange Cream to freehand the stripes. The stripes also required 2 coats. At first I tried to stamp some white ice creams on my index nail, but it just didn’t look good, but it gave me the idea to freehand some ice cream on there. For the last few years ice cream has been a staple in our house during summer, because kids. I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White to paint the ice cream onto the tip of my nail. I used a striping brush with Amazon Coral and Orange Cream to fashion some sprinkles and added the cherry using my dotting tool and Sinful Colors Ruby Ruby. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite and voila!

I really love how these turned out! I purchased these 3 polishes together, but at the time didn’t intend to use them in one mani. I did think that these were great colours for summer though and of course summer wouldn’t be summer without some holographic sparkle! It really helped that they were all standing together on my rack, which helped me picture them together.

What do you think of this mani? Please let me know in the comments below 🙂 Don’t forget to check out the rest of the manis for the challenge in the inlinkz below!
