bornprettystore Vintage Damask Water Decals Review

Press Sample Button

Hi there! Today I have some water decals from bornprettystore to review for you. I think perhaps today I’ll start out with my explanation and opinions before I show you my pictures. When I first tried water decals I failed miserably at using them. I didn’t realize that they can be cleaned up with acetone, so cutting them down to the perfect size/shape for your nail wasn’t really necessary. I also forgot on mulitple occasions to remove the protective plastic from the decal once I had cut them out, rendering them useless once I had put them in the water. Since I learned from my mistakes I have had much more success with them on the whole. I really loved the pattern of these decals, so as soon as I received my items for review I sat down to use them. I failed. I failed hard and decided to try again on another day and spoke to a nail friend to see if I was sabotaging myself somehow.

I found these decals hard to use. On my first attempt I could not get the decal to come off the backing without it completely disintegrating. I did not have to leave them in the water for very long for them to dislodge from the backing, but each time I touched them they fell apart. This happened whether I was using my fingers or a tweezer to remove the decal. After discussing this phenomenon with Michelle, she advised me to wet my fingers and/or try to apply the decals with my nail in the water. This sounded like a genius idea. Perhaps my execution was not spot on, but I had more success than I did when I tried the first time. Let me show you how it turned out.bornprettystore Vintage Damask Water Decalsbornprettystore Vintage Damask Water Decalsbornprettystore Vintage Damask Water Decals

I started with a base coat to protect my nails. I sponged a gradient using a make up sponge with Tip Top Purple Bow Peep (purple) and Tip Top Sherbet Angel (pink). Once that was dry I tried to use the decals. Because I was blindly applying the decals underwater, I could not control the orientation of the design. The designs on my index and ring nails came out the best, but my pinkie is a good example of a decal that came apart. I was just so happy I managed to get them on my nails. Due to the delicate nature of these decals, I chose to add a clear coat of polish before sealing it in with Seche Vite.

Hi everyone. As promised, yet another bornprettystore review for you. This is another set of water decals I totally fell in love with. Of course it helps that they are purple and that is my favourite colour, could you guess? Let me show you how stunning they are.bornprettystore water decal reviewbornprettystore water decal reviewbornprettystore water decal reviewI started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I chose to pair these decals with Revlon Gel Envy Showtime since it is not only purple, but contains purple and blue micro glitter which I thought would work perfectly with these decals. I painted 2 coats of Showtime on my thumb, index and pinkie nails. On my middle and ring nails I painted 1 coat of Revlon Gel Envy Sure Thing which is a lovely opaque white. To prep the decals I cut them out to the approximate size of my nails and removed the plastic protective layer. I submerged them in water for a few seconds until they slid off the paper backing. I placed the decal on my nail and absorbed excess water with a tissue. This helped the decal stay in place while I used a small clean up brush and acetone to remove the extra decal around and at the tip of my nail. These decals were sturdy, but using the acetone to clean them up and remove the excess worked well. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Bornprettystore Heartbeat Nail Stickers Review

Press Sample Button

Hi everyone! I’m back with a slew of bornprettystore reviews for you. This is the first of 4 reviews I have lined up. When making my choices for items to review, I chose a set of stickers. I don’t normally gravitate towards stickers because I often struggle with them. I am an impatient one and with some stickers, once you place them, you can’t reposition them. Perhaps that is because I am too impatient to let my polish dry completely before I try. Oops. I really liked these stickers though, so I decided to put my doubts aside and give them a go. Let me show you what I came up with.bornprettystore gold heartbeat nail stickersbornprettystore gold heartbeat nail stickersbornprettystore gold heartbeat nail stickers

I started with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Tip Top Liquid Envy on all of my nails. This metallic green is beautiful. I added a coat of Seche Vite to speed up the dry time of the polish so that I could apply the stickers. The V shaped stickers come in 2 different sizes, I used the larger ones for my bigger nails and the smaller one on my pinkie. I think it balances out quite nicely. One of the bigger stickers probably would have crowded my nail or extended past the tip, so I like the fact that there was more than one size to choose from. These stickers were not too difficult to lift and place again if you put them down incorrectly the first time, just make sure your base colour is dry. The part of the sticker that I placed at the cuticle are already slightly curved which was also nice, so they fit perfectly there. I added 2 coats of Seche Vite over the stickers to seal them in. This caused my base polish to wrinkle slightly, but it didn’t lift the stickers at all. I really like the variety in this pack and will definitely be using these again. If you would like to purchase these stickers, you can find them here.

I would really love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below. Don’t forget you can use my discount code to get 10% off non discounted items from bornprettystore 🙂

Sinful Colors Green Ocean and Gradient Stamping

wpid-purchased-myself-button.jpeg

Hi there 🙂 As it started getting colder and my mood started getting gloomier I really felt like doing a dark mani. I was really in the mood to wear black polish, which is unusual for me. I have nothing against black polish, but it isn’t the first colour I would reach for when I’m indecisive. I was mulling over how I could make black more interesting and knew it was the perfect opportunity to bring out some glitter! Glitter makes everything better, right? Well…it doesn’t make polish removal better, but usually it’s worth it 😉 Let me show you what I came up with.

essence black is back Sinful Colors Green Ocean M Polish Get Lost Pish Plashin' Around stampingessence black is back Sinful Colors Green Ocean M Polish Get Lost Pish Plashin' Around stampingessence black is back Sinful Colors Green Ocean M Polish Get Lost Pish Plashin' Around stamping

I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of essence black is back on all of my nails. This black isn’t super opaque, so you do need 2 coats to finish it off. On my ring nail I painted a coat of Sinful Colors Green Ocean. Drawing inspiration from the green and blue shift in the glitters and flakies, I decided rather than just use it over all my nails I would do some stamping to compliment it. I used my PUEEN 26 stamping plate with M Polish Pish Plashin’ Around (blue) and Get Lost (green) to stamp on my pinkie and index nails. On my middle nail I added a green and blue rhinestone. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

I was really planning on being lazy and just slapping on some black polish with glitter over it when I sat down to do this mani, but I sure was glad I got a jolt of inspiration from Green Ocean. I loved wearing this mani so much! I also happen to know that Green Ocean is my bestie, Pish Posh Polish‘s, favourite Sinful Colors polish…plus the blue stamping polish was named after her, so I dedicate this one to Pishy! I would love to hear your thoughts on this one in the comments below 🙂

Neon Gradient – Holo Stamping

Hi everyone! I told you I would be playing with neons and holos again…so not to disappoint you, I did 🙂 I love the combination of neons and holos…neons and nudes…holos and anything really. Every nail polish addict has their preferences. I’m a holosexual first and foremost and then I would probably put neons a close second.Neon gradient with holo stampingNeon gradient with holo stampingNeon gradient with holo stampingNeon gradient with holo stamping

I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I started off with a coat of essence wild white ways as a base. I used a make up sponge and China Glaze Highlight of my Summer (green), You Drive Me Coconuts (pink) and Flip Flop Fantasy (orange) to create a gradient on all of my nails. Once that was dry I used Color Club Beyond and MoYou Illusion 05 (press sample) stamping plate to stamp the swirls onto my nails. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

I have so many nail photos laying uploaded in my media folder that I am yet to create posts for, I kind of feel overwhelmed. My blog has been very quiet of late and it has been unavoidable. With some of them I cannot even remember what polishes I used, it’s been that long since I’ve actually done the mani! I’m going to try and do some catching up and write posts for all of the photos. Then I’ll be able to get some content out for you guys.

Holo Animal Print

wpid-purchased-myself-button.jpeg

Hi! I really love animal print nail art and every now and then I get the urge to do a leopard print mani. I received a really awesome nail art brush from bornprettystore to review and wanted to try doing some zebra stripes as well. My previous attempt at zebra stripes wasn’t too bad, but I thought my lines could have been thinner and after first using this brush I knew I could get nice fine lines. Let me show you what I came up with.

Oooooh yeah. You just know I had to get a sun shot of that holo! I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Color Club Eternal Beauty on all of my nails. I used Sinful Colors Amethyst to dot random and imperfect dots onto my index and ring nails. I hauled out some black acrylic paint to create the animal print effects. It was fairly easy for me to paint the zebra stripes, but I struggled with the brush and the leopard print. I ended up reverting to a dotting tool to complete the leopard print. You can see a bit of unevenness on my index nail where I used the acrylic paint. Somehow my black acrylic paint has become thick and gloopy. I tried thinning it down with some water, but didn’t do a very good job of it I think. All my other colours work beautifully. I think I might just replace the black since it is a colour that I will often use to paint freehand. LOL. Did you read that? Cos I paint freehand SO often. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

While we are on the topic of animal print. It is probably something stupid to be annoyed about, but I’ve noticed a lot of international bloggers refer to leopard print as “cheetah print”. No. Just no. Perhaps it is the African in me that finds it annoying, but cheetahs do not have spots like this on their fur. Don’t even attempt to google “cheetah print”. It will bring up images of leopard print…people have been getting it wrong for so long even Google believes them. Here you can see the difference:

Now that I finally have that off my chest, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below.

Delush Polish A Peony For Your Thoughts Swatch

Gift Button

Hi everyone! Today I have a swatch of an indie polish that I have used in a mani before (this post is picture heavy). I was feeling too lazy to do any nail art and decided to wear an interesting polish on it’s own. This is what I love about crellies, even though there is basically no effort involved, the polish still looks amazing and interesting as if you’ve done something special 🙂 Let me show you my swatch of Delush Polish A Peony For Your Thoughts.Delush Polish A Peony For Your Thoughts SwatchDelush Polish A Peony For Your Thoughts SwatchDelush Polish A Peony For Your Thoughts Swatch

I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 3 thin coats of A Peony For Your Thoughts on all of my nails. If you read my previous post you will know I struggled a bit to get the circle glitter out of the bottle, but this was because I was in such a rush to use it after receiving it from my friend Pish that I didn’t have the patience to work with it as required. It is common for larger, heavier glitter to settle at the bottom of the bottle. To prevent this and suspend the glitter, the base polish would have to be way too thick to work with so you need to use a few tricks in order to get the glitter out easily. I left the bottle upside down for about 30 minutes before using the polish. On the first 2 coats I didn’t really stress about getting any circle glitters out since subsequent coats would just cover them up anyway, but when I went in for my last coat I really focused on getting them out. In between each nail I closed the bottle and rolled it between my hands upside down. The circle glitters came out in abundance when I did this 🙂 I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Do you like crelly polishes? I have a weakness for white crellies myself. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

Neon French Nails

Hi everyone. The mani I have to show you today was actually requested by my husband. He is a huge fan of french manicures and has always wanted me to do one. In all my time doing nails I’ve only done one french mani, so I decided to indulge him. I tried to discuss details with him, but being a dude, it was like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. Eventually I asked him if he wanted a traditional french or something funky and he said funky. Let me show you what I came up with.Neon French NailsNeon French NailsNeon French NailsNeon French Nails

I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Revlon Sure Thing (gift) on my index, middle and pinkie nails. I really love this white. I actually think it’s my favourite white in my collection. It self levels really well and is very opaque. The formula is easy to work with and dry time is pretty standard. On my ring nail I painted 3 coats of China Glaze Neon & On & On. Oooooh I love me a good neon. The formula on this neon is tricky and not so easy to work with. The polish dries very fast, so it’s easy to drag if you go over the same spot more than once. It sure is beautiful though, right? Once my polish was dry I used french nail guides I purchased from bornprettystore to tape off the tips of my nails. I was actually shaking the entire time I was doing this. I’m not sure if it was because I was hungry or nervous that I was going to mess it up. I alternated the colours on my tips, painting over the guides and immediately removing them when I was done painting, one nail at a time. It still felt like it was missing something, so I added the heart rhinestone to my accent nail. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

Although french manis aren’t really my vibe, I really loved how this turned out. Perhaps because, NEON 😀 So I showed them to my husband and he just sort of grunted his “approval” and then went into how we had discussed other options for the french and that he wasn’t sure why I went ahead and did my own thing. I think I may have done so because at some point he had said “Just do whatever you want” when he was tired of discussing nails with me LOL. As you can see above, once again in my lightbox the camera was completely freaked out by the neon, the shot in the sun is colour accurate. I am also not sure why my skin looks so dark in the lightbox pictures. You win some, you lose some. I was totally going to post this as a Valentine’s mani, but life got away from me.

Do you like french manicures? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below.

Orange Neon Holo Nail Art

Hi there! Today I have a look for you that I created with some neon and holographic polishes. Summer is definitely the season for some neons and holo! Let me show you what I came up with.Neon Holo Nail ArtNeon Holo Nail ArtNeon Holo Nail ArtNeon Holo Nail ArtI started off with a base coat to protect my nails. On my pinkie, middle and ring nails I painted 3 coats of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. FFF is my absolute favourite orange and one of my favourite neons of all time, bearing in mind I don’t have access to all the amazing indies that are out there. On my index nail I painted 2 coats of Color Club Cosmic Fate. Once my nails were completely dry I used nail vinyls that I received as a press sample from We Heart Nail Art on my index and ring nails and painted Cosmic Fate over the vinyls, removing them immediately after painting over them. I sealed everything in with a coat of Seche Vite.

As you can see above, my camera is completely freaked out by the neon of Flip Flop Fantasy, but the photo in the sun is a fairly colour accurate shot. How about that sun shot though?! AMAZEBALLS! Yet another mani that I absolutely loved. Just so you know, lately only the manis that I really like are making it to the blog. Before I used to post every single mani I did, even if I wasn’t crazy about it, but now I save the best for you 🙂 The sharp lines and pattern in the vinyls reminded me of Aztec patterns, although it clearly isn’t. I really loved the holo and neon combination and will certainly be doing something like this in the future again, hopefully before summer is over and we switch into the darker, warmer shades of winter.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this mani in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Bornprettystore Ongle Liner Nail Art Brush Review

Hi everyone! Today I have the bornprettystore (affiliate link) Ongle Liner Nail Art Brush review for you. While I was waiting on this brush to arrive, I knew that I was going to need to freehand something for the review. Eek. Freehand is not my strong suit, so I was pretty nervous. I spotted a mani on Instagram that I absolutely loved and sent it to my friend via direct message on Instagram so I could keep it somewhere until it was time to do the mani. When the brush arrived, I went back to the direct messages only to find that the photo had been deleted. I went to search for it on Pinterest, hoping I would find it there to credit the original artist. I didn’t find the original photo that I saw, but I did find the same mani created by stephstonenails, so I’ll be crediting her as I cannot for the life of me remember who posted the photo that I saw. While searching for this mani I realized that it is inspired by the series Pretty Little Liars. I’ve only watched the first season of the show. I wouldn’t say I’m a die hard fan, but I am definitely a fan of this design. Let me show you how it turned out.

Pretty Little Liars Nail ArtPretty Little Liars Nail ArtPretty Little Liars Nail Art

I started off with a base coat to protect my nails. I painted 2 coats of Revlon Gel Envy Sure Thing on my index, middle and pinkie nails and 2 coats of Sinful Colors Black on Black on my ring nail. I then slathered latex around all of the white nails as I as going to attempt platter and I knew it is a messy business. I have failed at splatter nail art before, so I thought I would try it with a toothbrush as it made sense to me that this would work and be easier. After covering my entire index finger in red polish and barely getting a fine spray onto my nails, I decided to attempt it with a straw again. Success! I think what I did wrong before with the straw was simply not putting enough polish on the end of the straw. I did end up with huge blotches of polish on some of my nails, but I really liked it. At this point I put on a coat of Seche Vite as some of the red splatter was rather thick and I didn’t want to drag it when I painted the lettering. Once the top coat was dry I used the nail art brush and black acrylic paint over the white nails as well as red acrylic paint over the black nail to spell out LIAR. This brush is super thin and very easy to work with. When I was testing it on paper I was able to get super thin lines which I have never been able to do with the nail art brushes that I own. I did have a little trouble with my black acrylic paint, it was a bit goopy and difficult to mix with such a thin and flexible brush.

I was really impressed with this brush and absolutely obsessed with this mani! I actually feel like freehanding something else soon, just because I have this awesome brush to do it with! If you would like to buy this you can purchase it here. The brush comes in an awesome plastic tube that you can store it in to protect it. This is what it looks like:

I think this is my favourite nail art of the year so far and definitely in my all time top 10.
