House hunting
We’ve been looking for a new place to stay for a while now. Mostly because we’d like something that is more child friendly for Babyice. A place with a yard for him to play in at least and no stairs leading into/out of the house. After the failed attempt to purchase a house, we sort of stopped looking. It seems to be *very* difficult to find a rental property nowadays and most of the places we found were smaller than our current place and are usually little flats (sometimes with stairs, yet no yard to speak of). We even struggled when looking for places outside of our price range!
Recently our landlady informed us that her father would like his capital back that he invested when they purchased the flat together. He is embarking on a business venture and requires the funds. So the search intensified and we still had no luck. There were very few properties available in various areas we’ve searched. My landlady is the best ever. She has always attended to any problem we have reported immediately and is always accomodating and wonderful. She is a sweet person. She even bought me a gift when Babyice was born! I told her that we’re struggling to find a new place and she assured me that it would most likely take till October/November to get the place sold and transferred to the new owners anyway and she was willing to sign an additional contract with us so that we have peace of mind. I declined the offer of the contract and advised her we’ll keep looking and let her know if we find something.
On Saturday my grandmother calls me. She is at a house that is for rent. It’s only R100.00 more than we are currently paying and it’s a HOUSE. She says it’s beautiful. It has a yard for Babyice to play in, loads of cupboard space and a garage! We are going to view the house tonight, we were unable to make arrangements with the people that live there over the weekend due to conflicting schedules. I’m very excited to go and see it, but I’m also anxious. My grandmother happened to stumble across the place because she is buying furniture as she is moving soon too (another blog post) and the current tenant is selling all his furniture due to the move. Co-incidence? Do you believe in co-incidence? Do I? The other plus about this house is that it is closer to the day mother than where we are now. Currently we drive from where we live, to the day mother and then to work. If we move to this new house the day mother will be on the way to work.
What’s the problem? It’s available on the 1st of August. Our lease states that we need to give 2 months notice, but I’ve discussed this with our landlady before and she is happy with 1 month’s notice. Two weeks notice is ridiculous though! Even for me! Telling me I have to pack up and move my entire home in two weeks time is extremely overwhelming! I HATE moving, but it has to be done. Just the thought of moving sends me into a flat spin and depresses me. The last time we moved I was pregnant with Jamie and sick as a dog. Any exertion made me want to vomit. I think I actually threw up, or spent quite some time sitting next to the toilet while everyone else was moving our stuff into the flat.
I spoke to the current tenant yesterday and he said they are moving ‘away’ in the middle of August, but they are trying to avoid paying another month’s rent. If they don’t find tenants for 1 August, they’ll be forced to stay the month. Now that, I can do and I am positive my landlady will accomodate that request. A colleague suggested that we offer to pay half of August’s rent at the new place, but then I would have to get it past my landlady to only pay her for half of August too. Eek. We would also still have to cover up all the holes we’ve made in the walls and paint where we currently live, which I suppose won’t be too big a job. We won’t paint the entire place out since it was done for us shortly after we moved in, but we’ll definitely blend where we’re patching up.
So it’s a bit of a complicated situation. For those of you who pray, please pray that the Lord will open the way for us to this house if it is meant to be ours. I am scared we are going to love the place and it will slip through our fingers
From what I’ve seen on Google Earth…we *want* this place. My grandmother has also said she is sure we will love it.
Thank you.

Holding thumbs!!!
good luck! offer the new landlord your references, I’ve found landlords are willing to wait for their “perfect” tenant
Praying for you guys
Oh honey. Praying AND crossing all my bits for you.x
Oh I will – and I do not believe in co-incidence, but in providence.
Fingers tightly crossed that the place is everything you’re hoping for and it all works out for you!!
Good luck!
I’ll be praying darling acid!
Funny thing coincidence. I think things fall into place when they’re meant to and for a reason. So yes I believe in coincidence if that’s what we’re calling it.
Holding thumbs that everything works out perfectly!
Good Luck hope you find the perfect place!!
