First Proper Haircut

On Saturday before our date with Christelle and family, we took Babyice for his first haircut. We moved his appointment to a slightly later time as our appointment with Christelle was also moved. It suited us though, since he took his nap till after 11:00 and his appointment was at 12:00 to begin with.

When we arrived we were asked what he likes to watch on TV. I selected Barney as this is something that holds his attention for a while lately. They have cute little monitors at each station where your child can watch whatever it is they like. The setup there is very nice for kids. Babyice, however, was not impressed or fooled by their tiny screens. I snapped a few pictures while they were cutting his hair (click to enlarge):

The poor hairdresser felt so bad that he was crying all the time. She worked really fast. She must have taken a total of 4 minutes to cut his hair. She sprayed it to wet it, cut it chop-chop and then put some gel in it for him. He looked quite cute! The lady at the front desk said he was well behaved, even if he did cry the entire time. She said some of the children hit, kick and bite them! She gave him a lollipop and we ran away from them as quickly as possible. They charged R65.00 for his cut and would have charged R50.00 to shave his hair (which we would have done at home had it not been winter). Here is how he looks after the gel is washed out:

All neat and tidy :)

After all the drama we joined Christelle and family for a braai. Babyice and her daughter Zani had SUCH a good time playing together! Babyice had his first experience in a sand pit. He loved it! It was so cute!

We had a really lovely time. They are always so accomodating and hospitable when we are there. We really enjoy going to visit them. At some point early in the day Babyice climbed onto me when I had a glass of red wine in my hand and accidentally spilled red wine all over us. Christelle decided to put a load of laundry on so that she could wash our clothes to prevent a stain. She even dried them for us and we left with clean, dry clothes! Both Babyice and Zani passed out with no trouble at all. They had tired each other out :) I certainly hope we’ll start to do it more often. Sometimes months pass between visits, which is silly really! Christelle also made a mean potato bake and I’m really sorry I wasn’t there for leftovers the next day!

I had a good weekend all in all, save for Friday which was tainted by Rudi and Lindor. *sigh* I don’t even know why I would bother to complain about it anymore, even though it makes me dread and hate weekends.

P.S. I didn’t know how to exclude the two bottome pictures from the gallery…if anyone knows how to, please let me know!

Great haircut! I had long blond curls when about 3 it must have been, and Dad took me to one of his brothers – they all cut each other’s hair in those days – and brought me home shorn like a sheep. My mother was outraged. I have no idea why – I didn’t care a bit!

It will get better the more you take him to get his hair cut. What helps is that you started taking him now that he is little and not when he is bigger.

He looks very dashing with his new doo.

When I took Nicola for her first cut she went bananas until I took the cape off her, then she didn’t mind so much. Don’t blame her – I don’t like them either.

Ugh, don’t get me started on the WordPress Gallery thing! I also want to be able to post pics without including them in the gallery & I want to be able to put in more than one gallery!
Baba looks ADORABLE! I’ll never forget the knucklehead’s first haircut in a salon… he fell asleep in the chair & I had to hold his head up for her to finish! I got a discount coz he was so easy to do!
