Bronchitis!

So yesterday I anxiously awaited Rudi’s arrival to collect me from work so that we could get to the doctor for our appointment at 16:30. I had even asked my boss if I could leave at 15:50 to make it in time. Rudi’s boss, completely aware of our appointment and sick child, decided to send him out on a late trip that he would never make it back in time for. He ended up only collecting me around 16:25. I wasn’t pleased, but phoned ahead to the doctor and day mother to let them know we were running a little late.

Even though Babyice is sick as a dog, he is still mischevious and full of beans. He would not be held in the doctor’s waiting rooms and wanted to run around and explore. He ended up toppling a large bamboo room divider, which I caught *just* in time to prevent it falling on other patients. Eventually Rudi found a wheelchair to push him around in and this entertained him until the doctor called us in.

Entertaining a toddler - no easy task!

Diagnosis? Bronchitis. Gah. Bronchitis is a beetch. I’ve had it a couple of times in the last two years and it is so horrible. I remember how sore my body was just from all the coughing I was doing :( We were only given antibiotics, because apparently our medicine cabinet is very well stocked with everything else we need. Yes. I am prepared. We’ll continue to nebulize him for the next two days or so and he should be feeling MUCH better by the weekend.

He had his first dose of antibiotics last night and I went to bed early in anticipation of another rough night (and as a result of the previous few nights). Rudi was out to darts and usually only gets home very late, so I would be on my own till then. I could hear Babyice having coughing fits and could only cross my fingers in the hope that he wouldn’t wake himself up or throw up. He cried around 23:15 and I managed to put him back to sleep and back down without incident. I could feel and hear his lungs rasping with each breath, it’s so horrible! Rudi came home around 23:45 and kept me awake for a while because he was hungry. We went back to sleep and Babyice only woke us up again at 3:45. I was a bit nervous because he has had the nasty habit of not wanting to go back to sleep when he wakes up around 4:00, but I gave him a bottle and he dozed back off again with no problems. I actually managed to sleep to the alarm this morning! He also coughed a bit less than he did the previous nights, but once he started he found it hard to stop, which is why I was concerned about him throwing up.

This morning his chest still sounded raspy, but we got a good morning smile and a few hours extra sleep. I really hope that the antibiotics work really fast and that he is feeling all better by the weekend. Rudi is already talking about sleep training once he is better (guess who is tired?).

I can’t wait to see how he is going to look with his new haircut on Saturday! I just hope he can sit still and allow them to cut it properly :) . I will definitely take some photos and write a post about it. The Huggies Gold have not let us down yet after two nights. Here’s hoping that continues to be the case! Thank you for all the support here and on Facebook and Twitter. I really appreciate the messages of concern and advice. *MWAH*

He has all my sympathy! I’ve just gotten over my bronchitis!
Actually something you may be able to use- a friend of mine uses ACC200 in her son’s nebuliser! She puts a quarter tablet in a little water and puts it into the nebuliser chamber. Her boy is 5 though…
