Roxette!
On Friday I won a set of Roxette tickets from KFM. I was quite excited and went to fetch my tickets on Sunday afternoon before the show:
It turned out to be quite a mission to get the tickets since I forgot to take my ID with to claim them *facepalm*. We had to drive all the way back home to fetch my ID. It’s a very good thing we went a lot earlier than planned!
We set off to Grand West Casino with time to spare and met up with Mel and Geoff at the Wimpy before the show. Grand West was PACKED. According to the Roxette Blog, 7000 people attended Sunday’s show. Even though there were SO many people there, my colleague Sanita who attended managed to find me and say hi before the show. Our tickets were general standing tickets, so they were right behind the golden circle. We were probably about 4 rows behind the golden circle.
They sang my favourite song, ‘It must have been love’ (the song featured in Pretty Woman) and a lot of their hits that I remember. Honestly I think most of the songs I am familiar with are from the Joyride album. Their lead guitarist is AMAZING. He had quite a few guitar solos that had the crowd cheering and impressed. Roxette’s style hasn’t changed much since they rose to fame…both the lead singers were donning their lederhosen, but they totally rocked it!
Rudi and I both had a good time. Rudi has never been to a concert before. This is the 4th international act I’ve seen and only the second in a concert setting (the other two were at staff parties). The first (and last) concert that I went to was Alanis Morissette and I was still in high school! I really wish she’d come back!
I was quite suprised at the people that were there. There were people of all ages! I expected an “older” crowd since Roxette was so popular in the early nineties, but there were LOADS of young people there. Lots of pretty young girls and some old guys too! There were definitely some hardcore fans there, people were shouting ‘ROXETTE!” at the top of their lungs (a guy on my right) and someone else shouted ‘ROXETTE I LOVE YOU!’ (a girl on my left). There was quite an elderly gentleman standing in front of me (pressed to my front more like it), he sounded like he may be from Germany, or perhaps even Sweden. Rudi was standing on top of me too, so I was getting mighty hot!
The venue was great. It was clean and had airconditioning and we didn’t struggle with parking or to get out of the venue at all. There were no crazy queues and everything seemed to run smoothly.
Thank you for the opportunity to go and see them and to relive some teenage memories, KFM!

So so cool that you got to go.
I do love live concerts! I also saw Alanis when she was here, and I’ve seen loads of local acts live. I’ve also seen Smashing Pumpkins!
